The first play in 2023 was Leading Ladies. Set in the 1950s, Leading Ladies focuses on two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, who find their careers in a rut. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, the actors resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. Hilarity ensues when it turns out the relatives are actually nieces and not nephews. A perfect play for crossdressers.

After the play we went to Denny's for cream filled crapes.

The second play was I hate Hamlet.

Television star Andrew Rally is about to start rehearsals to play Hamlet and he is terrified. Unsure of himself, he is visited by the ghost of legendary actor John Barrymore. Barrymore explains that all actors who take on the role are visited and mentored by their predecessors, and that he cannot leave Andrew until he takes the stage as Hamlet. As Andrew grows under Barrymore’s larger-than-life wing, he is forced to confront the ultimate question: who he wants to be, or not to be.

The final play of the 2022-2023 season was "Puffs, or The 7 Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic..."

Most of the world these days only needs to hear the words “wizard” or “muggle”, and a certain fourth-highest-grossing-film-series-ever comes to mind. We know about the famous boy who discovers he’s a wizard and is thus sent off to wizarding school, where he fearlessly leads and conquers evil, seemingly over and over again. We’ve read the books and devoured the movies. But what about all the other students? You know, the ones who didn’t kill the dark lord and save the wizarding world for good? The other ones in the class who were just, average?

This was the driving question for playwright Matt Cox, who in 2015 took to writing Puffs, or The Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic, a hilarious and heartwarming spoof of the famous wizard franchise. Cox’s play follows all seven years at a certain school of “magic and magic” but from the alternate perspective of the “Puffs”, who, between the school’s four sorting houses, make up the most under appreciated (albeit, the most lovable) students. The Puff house may be known for their kindness, fairness, and inclusivity, but here you certainly won’t find any of the heroic, day-saving types.

Back

The first play of the 2023/2024 season was Phantom.

The musical is about the frightening caped and masked ˜phantom” living in the depths of the Paris Opera. The Phantom (Eric) lives for beautiful music and is mesmerized by a young and beautiful soprano, Christine. He offers to train the girl and make her into a great singer. Trouble ensues when Gerard Carrier is fired as the Opera House Manager and replaced by the revolting diva, Carlotta, and her husband Cholet.
